Twodecadesofneoliberalismhavedestroyedastructured,pan-regionalfeministmovementinCanada.Asaresult,newgenerationsoffeministshavecometoagewithouteverseeingtheforcethatanorganizedsocialmovementcanhaveindemocraticsociety.Theyhaveneverbenefitedfromtheknowledge,thedebates,theactions,themassmobilizationsortheleadershipthatallaccompanyasocialmovementandinsteadorganizeindecentralizedsilos.Asaresult,governmentandcorporateleadershaveco-optedfeminismtoturnitintosomethingthatcanbebought,sold,orusedtoattractvoters.Campaignslike#BeenRapedNeverReported,#MeToo,theSlutWalksandtheCanadianWomen’smarches,whileimportant,don’tyethavetheorganizedpowertobringthechangesthatactivistsseektomakeinsociety.InTakeBackTheFight,NoraLoretoexaminesthestateofmodernfeminisminCanadaandarguesthatfeministsmustorganizetotakebackfeminismfrompoliticians,businessleadersandjournalistswhodistortandobscureitspower.Furthermore,Loretourgestoday’sactiviststoovercomethechallengesthatsankthemovementdecadesago,tostopcenteringwhitenessasthequintessentialwoman’sexperience,andtofindwaystorebuildthecommunitiesthathavebeenobliteratedbyneoliberaleconomicpolicies.
